Often referred to as the Sport of Kings, horse racing has been around for many thousands of years. Since around 4500 BC when nomadic tribes in Central Asia first used the horse to ride on, competitive racing also began. Popularity in horse racing has never really waned with real tournaments being held throughout history especially among the Egyptians, Romans and Greeks, though it did almost die out after the fall of the Roman Empire. It became the favourite viewing sport of Pharaohs, Kings and Emperors. Hence the term 'Sport Of Kings'. Nowadays it is mostly associated with gambling and is still one of the most popular sports around the world.
I have created two types of horse racing game one being on the flat and the other a steeplechase involving the horses having to hurdle fences, where you have a free bet on your choice and either play as the jockey or just watch the race. With the help of my late friend Ron Maund, the famous Australian racing journalist I have managed to add in some very famous Australian horses and handicap them according to their temperament, guts, speed, staying power and personality. The resulting new game, Flat Race, certainly got Ron's approval especially as I created a new wide screen version just for him, which is also now available to all. All the games are free full versions and do not contain any toolbars or other third party downloads. They are available as PC Windows downloads and as Flash online games which are Mac compatible.
